Biography of Dr. Marie Jo Kane
Dr. Marie Jo Kane received the Outstanding Woman Graduate Award from the National College of Chiropractic by the ACA Council of Women Chiropractors - Student Chapter, December 10, 1978. She received a diploma in sports medicine as a Certified Chiropractic Team Physician in July 1981. While a student at the National College of Chiropractic in Lombard, Illinois she was an instructor of Histology (microanatomy) Laboratory, She is also a graduate of La SalleUniversity in Philadelphia receiving her Biology degree in May 1975 with minors in chemistry, music, psychology, theology, and Russian literature. She was part of the first 500 women freshmen undergraduate students taken at the then called La SalleCollege which was previously an all male college institution. She first entered La Salle as a music major, and taught the class Harmony and Counterpoint under the sanctions of music department chairman, George Diehl, and infamous WFLN Classical Music Station commentator. She co-founded the college orchestra with Robert White, co-chairman of the music department, and played as concertmeister of the La Salle Collegium Musician. She had been a first violinist with the Philadelphia Doctors Symphony since September 1971. She also played with the Philadelphia Symphony Council Orchestra (winter group)/Symphony Club (its summer group), Chestnut Hill Symphony and Opera Group, Old York Symphony, Rittenhouse House Opera Society Orchestra, Drexel University Orchestra (played first violinist, and was an invited concertmeister), while Drexel's then concertmeister, Mr. Bill Johnson violinist, composer; conductor would be periodically away playing with Duke Ellington and his Orchestra. She was invited to play in the XXIII Eucharistic Congress Orchestra, Philadelphia August 1976 for the then Cardinal soon to be Pope John Paul II (due to school commitments in Chicago she was unable to attend this once in a lifetime event). While in Chicago attending the National College of Chiropractic she played in the Gold Coast Orchestra under Conductor, Milton Preeves, first chair violist with Chicago Symphony since 1939. She was also a first violinist in the Wheaton Symphony under Conductor Ralph Lane of Eastman School of Music. She has also played in the LA Doctors Symphony. She played at the infamous Philadelphia Folk Festival summer 1975 with Symphony Club under the conductor David Amram of the then New York Philharmonic, and guest musician John Sebastian of the Rock Group the Loving Spoonful. She was concertmeister of the Philadelphia Ukrainian Symphony until 1975.
